Civica Wins Transport for London Managed Service

Infrastructure solution to help 58,000 Dial-A-Ride users in London

13th May 2004, London... Civica plc, one of the UK’s most experienced providers of consulting, software and services for the public sector, has been awarded a contract worth £1.7 million by Transport for London to provide and manage a new high availability system infrastructure for the Dial-A-Ride service in London.

Used by 58,000 people across the capital, Dial-A-Ride provides door-to-door transport for people with disabilities and health problems who cannot use conventional public transport. Provided through six depots and three sub-depots, the Dial-A-Ride service allows users to book lifts for day to day activities such as shopping, attending doctor’s appointments and social events. The service is used for over 1.3 million journeys a year.

Civica’s contract is part of Transport for London’s programme to improve the flexibility of bookings for customers, optimise vehicle usage and enhance depots’ workload management. Civica will provide a fully managed service, which includes the installation and support of servers, network infrastructure and software including Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Oracle and Citrix, located across two 24 x 7 data centres to ensure business continuity.

The project, which is led by Richard Cumbers at Transport for London Buses, will see comprehensive testing before go-live in September this year.

Philip Wright, director of managed services at Civica, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Dial-A-Ride, which continues to provide essential services in the capital to those who need them. Our managed services model is designed to enable organisations such as Transport for London to ensure that critical services are available, secure and delivering value for money, for which we handle technology around the clock to agreed levels and predictable costs. The award demonstrates our systems expertise and service capabilities in the sector.”
